Life on a working property

You can enjoy an authentic outback station experience at “Dunblane” which is located 8km from Barcaldine off the Landsborough Highway on the eastern edge of the Mitchell grass pastoral zone. “Dunblane” is a generational family-owned property with a commercial flock of superfine merino sheep, as well as meat goats and trade cattle.

The unique self-drive tour includes checking water points, location and movement of sheep and searching for wild dog tracks. Over the 2-3 hours, expect to encounter various wildlife, including emus, eagles, brolgas, red kangaroos and echidnas in their natural habitat. Points of interest include hundreds of km’s of wild dog fences, a hand dug Chinese dam, the historical wool shed and remnants of the Barcaldine Wool Scour.

Private campsites are highly sought after, particularly those with Artesian Bore hot tubs. “Dunblane” is one of the few locations along the Matilda Way where you can enjoy stunning sunsets, light a campfire under the expansive outback skies and experience wide open spaces for your dog and children to explore.
