Where is the Matilda Highway
Officially called (from south to north) the Mitchell Highway, Landsborough Highway and Burke Developmental Road, and nicknamed Matilda Highway in honour of our national song, Waltzing Matilda, this stretch of bitumen enters Queensland south of Cunnanulla and continues north all the way to Karumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is the main artery of Queensland's outback road system.
Our magazine, Travel Action Matilda Country, introduces you to the Matilda Highway and many byways that will give you an authentic Australian outback experience. Flip through our e-mag for a taste of what you'll find when you waltz into Matilda Country. Or from this page, get to know a little about the towns and attractions along the way.
